History of The Muthusamy Virtual University of Post Graduate Ophthalmology

The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) conducts Basic Sciences and Clinical Science Assessment once a year. So, I voluntarily coached candidates to prepare for Basic Sciences Assessment in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. My students had very remarkable success rates in the Assessment and they went on to pass the final Ophthalmology Examination conducted by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

This gave me the impetus to start, in 1996, the Muthusamy International Internet course for Basic Sciences Assessment. At that point of time, the ICO had neither the e-mail facility nor web page. So, I posted in my web page all the information available from the ICO, including their syllabus. This brought students from all over the world to my course. The pass rate among my students was amazing.

I was appointed as a coordinator of the Assessment in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia in 1998.

I was informed that, at the meeting of the ICO in Jerusalem on 17th May 2000, the committee was prepared to include my course in a list of courses available when the next batch of information was circularized.

Now you can see my name in the ICO home page among the coordinators and course providers.

This gave me the incentive and my students gave me the encouragement to start the Muthusamy Virtual University of Post Graduate Ophthalmology.

Updated on 1st January 2008
